The GP Paediatric Update was initiated as part of the UCT Health Science Faculty’s centenary celebrations. The aim of the programme is to highlight clear approaches to a variety of important conditions that are seen commonly in the medical care of children. The event took place over two days at The Upper East Side Hotel in Woodstock.
The challenge:
Supply sound for one hundred people, two projectors, confidence monitors for the chairman and the presenters, two presentation laptops and a seamless switcher.
The response:
The sound system comprised of a four speaker P.A, a podium microphone, a chairman microphone, a lapel microphone and two roving microphones for questions from the audience.
Presentations were projected on two screens and a 19” LCD screen was used as a reference monitor for the chairman. The two screens presented a challenge for presenters to point to both screens simultaneously. The solution was a touch screen reference monitor that enables the presenter to point on the screen with his/her finger and a mouse cursor appears, showing the audience what the presenter is highlighting.
A cordless clicker was used to control the slides since the presentation laptop was at the back of the room where the technician loaded and managed all the talks. Two laptops were used, one to display the presentations and the other to load talks and it also served as a back up laptop. Provision was also made for presenters to connect their own laptop/MacBook to our A/V display system should the need arise.
To ensure that presenters kept to the time allowed for their presentations, we used a large L.E.D countdown timer.
The conference was very successful, stimulated discussions and gave delegates the opportunity to share ideas.
