Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA is a joint initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Innovation Foundation (AIF). IPA honours and encourages innovative achievements that contribute toward developing new products, increasing efficiency or saving cost in Africa. The event was held in the Ballroom of the Mount Nelson Hotel.
Guests gathered in the Garden room for pre-drinks and a performance by a youth choir. We supplied a P.A system for the choir, LED décor lighting, projected a video onto the ceiling and placed a 40” lcd screen showing pictures of the prize nominees at the entrance of the room.
The Ballroom…
We set up an L-shaped stage in front of a set with a built in projection screen in the middle and branding on the sides. The lectern had a 40” lcd screen built into which displayed logos and the names of the speakers as they came up to talk. The lectern was lit with profiles and the performance area with par cans. We also used LED par cans to as uplighters and a gobo light was placed on a truss totem to sweep the IPA logo across the walls and ceiling.
Two laptops were used for the visuals and controlled from the back. One was used to display images on the lectern screen and the other to display slides on the main projection screen and the 50” plasmas. A third laptop was used as a lighting controller and a seamless switcher allowed us to switch between the laptop, dvd player and camera relay.
We provided a four speaker P.A with sub woofers, two monitors and microphones for speeches and entertainment which was provided by Mara Louw and a marimba band. A follow spot was used to light Mara for her performance.
